PAST ROTARY INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT HUGH ARCHER

February 18, 2004 - DG Roberto and First Lady Sylvia, accompanied by a small group of Rotarians, made a visit to the home of PRIP Hugh Archer. DG Roberto presented Mr. Archer with the coveted " The Rotary Foundation Distinguished Service Award". This award is given to just 50 Rotarians in any given year and Mr. Archer was a delightful, humorous recipient. The group, accompanying our District 6400 Governor, included Dearborn Rotary President Lee Hollmann, District Secretary PDG Jack Mueller, Digest Publisher Kim Towar and Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator Larry Wright. Ê Mr. Archer served as President of Dearborn Rotary 1957/1958, as District Governor 1969/1970, and as Rotary International President 1989/1990. During his year as President of Rotary International, he traveled to 39 countries and he was instrumental in initiating the restoration of Rotary to the former Soviet-bloc countries. Ê District Governor Roberto Sanchez presented the Award and recapped Mr. ArcherÕs extensive and benevolent Rotary career. His zest for life and jovial sense of humor made the visit especially enjoyable for the Rotarians who accompanied President Sanchez to participate in the presentation. It was a distinct and tremendous honour to be in the company of Mr. Archer and his gracious family!
