Adding a hitcounter to your web page

WINCOM has a hitcounter available for the use of our customers. To use the hitcounter, you will have to add some HTML code to your web page.

The basic counter code looks like this:

<img src="/cgi-bin/counter/Count.cgi?df=loginid.homepage">

You will need to replace the word loginid in the example above with your actual login/username.

The above code will produce a counter that looks like this:

If you had followed our instructions but receive output similar to the following graphic please contact us and we can configure the allowance for our counter script for your website.

Customizing your hitcounter

The actual program is the /cgi-bin/counter/Count.cgi part of the above code. Then there is a ? used as a separator, with the arguments to the program following the question mark.

Arguments appear in key=value pairs. The word before the = sign is the key, and the word after the = sign is the value. If there are multiple arguments, separate the key=value pairs with an & symbol. For example, /cgi-bin/counter/Count.cgi?df=login.homepage&ft=6&dd=A

The argument df=loginid.homepage appears in the above example. The df argument is required. This specifies the data file that will store the number of hits your web page has received.

You can change the datafile name to store more than one count--for example, if you want to keep a separate count for more than one web page. Just use a df=loginid.somename type of argument. You can replace somename with anything you want, so use a different somename on each page that you wish to have a separate counter.

For a complete list of counter options, see the official Count.cgi homepage.
