Publishing to Your Web Page Space

Our webserver is a great resource to offer files to the public.  Insted of attaching large files to emails and clogging up someone else's email box or findout that they have already reached quote.  Just publish the file to your public_html and offer your contact the http://www.wincom.net/~username/file_name.ext address.  Please review some popular webdesign applications and some FTP programs that will assist with transfering your file(s) to our server.

If you use Netscape Navigator Gold, Netscape Communicator, or Microsoft FrontPage, this section is for you. We will teach you how to setup your programs to automatically upload your web site to your FTP area at WINCOM.

Our FTP Server does support SSL/TLS for encrypting the connection, the software developers for our FTP daemon have their own secure FTP client found on their website at SurgeFTP by NetWinSite

Select the publishing program that you use:

-> Netscape Communicator 4.0
-> Netscape Navigator Gold
-> HotDog Professional 3.0
-> Microsoft FrontPage 2000
-> Microsoft FrontPage 2003
-> FTP Explorer
-> WS_FTP LE 5.x


Netscape Communicator 4.0

  1. In either Navigator or Composer, click the Edit menu and choose Preferences.
  2. From the Category menu on the left side of the window, click the + sign next to Composer to expand it, then click on Publishing.
  3. In the Links and Images area, make sure that you have a checkmark in the Maintain links and Keep images with page boxes.
  4. In the Default publishing location area, use these settings:

    ...address to Publish to: ftp://ftp.wincom.net/username/public_html/
    ...address to browse to: http://www.wincom.net/~username/

    where username is replaced with your actual username/loginid.

  5. Click the OK button at the bottom of the window.
You are now ready to "Publish" your web pages to the Internet! When you press the Publish button in Composer (or in the File menu select Publish), make sure that you enter your username and password correctly in the provided entry blanks.


Netscape Navigator Gold

  1. In either Navigator or Editor, click the Options menu and choose Editor Preferences.
  2. Click on the Publish tab at the top of the new window.
  3. In the Links and Images area, make sure that you have a checkmark in the Maintain links and Keep images with document boxes.
  4. In the Default publishing location area, use these settings:

    Publish to: ftp://ftp.wincom.net/username/public_html/
    Browse to: http://www.wincom.net/~username/

    where username is replaced with your actual username/loginid.

  5. You can, but do not have to type in your username and password in the entry blanks provided there.
  6. Click the OK button at the bottom of the window.
You are now ready to "Publish" your web pages to the Internet! When you press the Publish button in Editor (or in the File menu select Publish), make sure that you enter your username and password correctly in the provided entry blanks.


Hot Dog Professional 3

  1. Click the Tools menu and select Upload To Host
  2. In the new window, use the following settings:

    Host: ftp.wincom.net
    Directory: public_html
    Login As: username
    Password: password

    where username is replaced with your actual username/loginid, and password is replaced with your actual login password.

  3. Click the Send File(s) button at the bottom of the window.
Watch the small status area at the bottom of the window for "Connecting..." and then "Putting xxxx.html". If you do not receive any errors, you should be able to browse to your web page and view it!

You may want to click Edit WWW Server List to store the information above so you don't have to type it in each time you publish pages. Click the Add button, then type in the Connection details and press the Save button.
