Program: Provide services to all non-Roman Catholic families of age to assure the care and protection of children from neglect and abuse. Social workers and child care workers provide services to families and individuals at home and to children and adolescents placed by CAS into residential care. Services involve individual adult, child and adolescent counseling, family counseling, foster care, other residental or institutional care, adoption and adoption disclosure, family support services, assessment and referral services, and liaison with other agencies.

    Program: A Social Agency for families experiencing domestic violence. The emergency shelter has 42 beds for battered women and their children. The 24 hr service is operated with professional staff. Its non-residential program provides crisis intervention services, plus counseling and follow-up services for discharged residential families.

    Program: The center provides crisis intervention, counseling and information to victims of sexual assault, sexual abuse, and incest and their non-offending significant others or family members. The agency develops the community's awareness of the problems and realities of sexual assault and of the services provided by SACC, and works with existing institutions to improve and develop services to sexual assault and sexual assault victims.

    Services: 24 hr service ~ Fees covered by OHIP ~ Survivors of sexual assault or domestic violence are eligible ~ Will provide assistance to anyone, female or male, that has been harmed by a person who they know in an intimate or familial way and/or who reside in a common household. This includes couples of the same sex. ~ Receive referrals from hospitals, physicians, schools and community agencies ~ Languages spoken: English; French intermittently; German; Yugoslavian intermittently ~ Serving Windsor/Essex County

    Program: Following UNIVERSAL SCREENING, the individual is asked if they would like to speak with the Domestic Violence Nurse regarding the violence in his/her life. All patients require medical clearance, as the absence of obvious physical injury does not address the possibility of serious internal injury. Domestic Nurse discusses many options. These include:



    . Information

    . Emotional support (acknowledging her suffering and victimization)

    . Education about the dynamics of abuse

    . Documentation of any physical injuries (including the use of body maps)

    . Photographing physical injuries (including the use of body maps)

    . Photographing physical injuries (written consent is required)

    . Risk assessment

    . Safety planning

    . Safety assessment of any children

    . Community resource referrals

    . Planning & transfer to a safe place if home is no longer a safe place to be

    . 48 hr follow-up appointment for reassessment and documentation of injuries which my Include repeat photographs (written consent is required)



    THE POLICE DO NOT HAVE TO BE INVOLVED IN ORDER TO ACCESS THESE SERVICES.



    THE PATIENT MAY AGREE TO SOME OR ALL OF THE OPTIONS AVAILABLE.



    DOCUMENTATION AND PHOTOGRAPHS ARE KEPT IN CONFIDENTIAL FILES AND WOULD BE AVAILABLE TO THE PATIENT IN THE FUTURE IS SHE/HE REQUIRED THEM.

    The toll free line can be called anytime and an automated voice system will receive the caller's name, telephone number and the name of the offender. An Information Officer will promptly return the call during regular working hours 08:30 am-4:30 pm.

    Program: The program assists victims and witnesses of crime who may be required to attend court and participate in the criminal justice system. Specific information about court procedure, protocol, testifying in court, current status of cases, and disposition of cases is also available. Orientation of the courtroom available upon request, as well as, emotional support before, during and after court. The program also provides a separate waiting area away from the general public, assistance in relaying concerns about case to the Crown Attorney or the police officer in charge, assistance in completing victim impact statements, referrals to community agencies providing services to victims and to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board.

    Services: Investigates cases of Domestic assault. Utilizes video camera to document violence on crime scene as well as written report. Works in conjunction with the Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Unit, Hiatus House, to combat domestic violence. Gives lectures at Police College and different levels of the Justice Department to educate the public and professionals about domestic violence.

    Program: Domestic Violence Unit as per Solicitor General's Directive to lay charges in cases of domestic assault.

    Program: The Windsor Police Victim Assistance Unit acts as liaison between the police and the victims, providing victims with support and information regarding the status of their case; their role and their rights with the criminal justice process; and the various community resources available to them.
