Port Windsor
Port
Windsor is located on the Great Lakes/St. Lawrence Seaway
System, one of the world's most efficient deep draft waterways,
and is on the Detroit River opposite Detroit, Michigan. The Port
is 617 miles (993 kms) from Montreal and includes over 13 miles
(21.2 kms) of shoreline encompassing marine terminals, parkland,
and beautiful residential neighbourhoods. The industrial/marine
facilities are concentrated in the western portion of the Port.
Port
Windsor is the third largest Canadian Great Lakes port in terms
of shipments. Cargos include a wide range of products such as
aggregates, salt, grain, fluorspar, lumber, steel, petroleum,
vehicles and heavy lift equipment. Over the past decade,
shipments of goods through the Port increased 38% from 4.2
million tonnes to 5.8 million tonnes (not including discontinued
rail barges). Growth has paralleled the buoyant Windsor and
mid-west U.S. economies.
Education
Windsor
& District is a great place to achieve academic excellence,
advance your skills and technology training or participate in
leading-edge research programs. The Windsor-Essex County
community is dedicated to providing excellence in education at
all levels of learning. With 2826 teachers in 102 elementary and
24 secondary schools consistently maintain high educational
standards. The area is home to the University of Windsor and
St.Clair College of Applied Arts & Technology.
Transportation
Windsor-Essex County region is North America’s
‘crossroads for commerce’ where cross-border shipments through
Windsor/Detroit are valued at (US) $400 million daily!
The Windsor-Essex County region is a leading
transportation hub in North America where a sophisticated infrastructure
of expressways, rail lines, airport, deepwater port facilities, railway
tunnel, and vehicular tunnel and bridge service a global economy.
