Volunteer Committees

Volunteer committees are continually active addressing issues and keeping you informed. The Chamber supports the work of numerous committees, which meet on a regular basis to monitor areas of interest and concern.  These committees include: After Business, ATHENA, Business Excellence Awards, Challenge Cup, Environment, Finance & Taxation, Golf, Government Relations, Information Management Technology, Membership Services & Development, and Transportation.  As a member you are encouraged to join one of our committees.

POLICY COMMITTEES  

ENVIRONMENT
Chair Dean Clevett, BASF Canada. 
Promotes awareness of environmental issues within the business community and the community at large through their research and recommendation in matters of environment-related legislation at the municipal, provincial and national level. The committee encourages ethical and environmentally responsible business decision-making amongst Chamber members with respect to the purchasing, manufacturing, recycling, resource conservation aspects of business.

FINANCE & TAXATION

Chair Tim Fuerth, Omstead Foods Ltd. 

Responsible for assisting members through their research and recommendation in matters of taxation and finance-related legislation at the municipal, provincial and national level.  

GOVERNMENT RELATIONS

Chair Dave Harrison, Scotiabank.
Responsible for anticipating, monitoring and preparing policy positions and statements for Board approval on governmental matters at all levels of government. The committee, through its members and network, is connected at all levels of government in order to facilitate the flow of information that may be of value to the Chamber membership.

 

MEMBERSHIP SERVICES & DEVELOPMENT

Chair: Janice Forsyth, Leadership Windsor/Essex
Working in partnership with the Windsor & District business community and related organizations and agencies to enhance the effectiveness of the Chamber in the development and delivery of value-added services to the membership and significantly expand the membership in the Windsor and Essex County.

 

TRANSPORTATION
Chair: Paul Innes, K-Scrap Resources Ltd.
Works regularly on matters related to transportation in Windsor, Essex County, Ontario, Canada and the United States.  

EVENT COMMITTEES

AFTER BUSINESS
Chair Hani Yacoub, Union Gas

The Committee plans and executes five successful networking and mini trade show forums.  This venue allows member locations and sponsors the opportunity to highlight their facility, services and programs.

BUSINESS EXCELLENCE AWARDS GALA
Shelby Rohrer, Teen Health Centre

This Committee works to ensure this annual gala event continues to recognize and honour businesses and individuals who achieve “excellence” for themselves and our community.

CHAIRMAN’S BALL

This Committee plans, executes and implements a prestigious "ball" that attracts a high quality business audience which serves as an annual dedicated revenue generating source for the Chamber 

CHALLENGE CUP
Chair: Rob Weir, Festival Tent

Co-Chair: Darlene Van Den Brand

This annual event focuses on encouraging employer/employee groups to take part in a day of recreational activity.  The Committee meets throughout the year to develop new and innovative ways to challenge the participants and always encourages support for the designated charities which benefit from the pre-event activities.

GOLF TOURNAMENT
Chair Maria Hamilton
The Committee begins planning this event in December and works eagerly to the mid June date.  This is an excellent opportunity to meet and network with members and their guests.  The fact that it is a sold out event each year proves how hard they work at ensuring its success.

PARTNERSHIPS/ALLIANCES

ATHENA
Chair: Sue Zanin
The ATHENA Foundation's purpose is to encourage the opening of leadership opportunities for women. ATHENA's programs of action include an award and scholarships.
