CHAMBER'S
COMMENTS ON THE 2004 PROVINCIAL BUDGET
On
May 18, 2004 the Ontario Minister of Finance, Greg Sorbara,
introduced his government's first budget. The Chamber's Finance & Taxation
Committee provided comments to the media. Ed Miles, Chartered
Accountant and member of the Committee, stated
that "With the new budget Windsor would benefit from the 2
cents per liter gas tax to be returned to municipalities and the
ongoing Windsor Gateway Action Plan. It is disappointing that
the government, in its first budget, has contradicted its
explicit promises."

CHAMBER'S
COMMENTS ON THE 2004 CITY OF WINDSOR BUDGET
In
its 2004 Municipal Pre-Budget Submission on February 18, 2004,
the Chamber made eight recommendations for the City of Windsor
Budget. Three months later the City Council approved the City's 2004 Budget. Among the chamber's recommendations were a
reduction in the City's Tax Rate to take into account the
increase in the Current Value Assessment so the overall
increase in property taxes is held to the rate of
inflation.
Speaking
on the 2004 City of Windsor Budget Marty Komsa, Chair of the
Chamber's Board of Directors, stated that "the membership
has been putting forward suggestions about fiscal responsibility
for the past few years. We are in difficult financial times now
and a new direction is needed and I'm encouraged by what I am
hearing from our new leadership."
