Advocacy Update

 

MICHAEL J. SABIA SPEAKS AT THE WINDSOR & DISTRICT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

November 16, 2005 – Michael J. Sabia, President and CEO of BCE Inc. and CEO of Bell Canada addressed a business audience gathered for the Windsor & District Chamber of Commerce Annual General Meeting. Mr. Sabia delivered a speech that addressed the importance of technology, our international competitiveness and the importance of the Windsor-Detroit Border crossing for our economy. 

 

One of the highlights of the address was the message that to be globally competitive the business community needs to step outside of its immediate business interests and work together with the education sector, non-profit organizations and government. FEDERAL GOVERNMENT'S ECONOMIC AND FISCAL UPDATE 

November 14, 2005, Ottawa - Finance Minister Ralph Goodale appeared before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance to present the Government of Canada’s annual Economic and Fiscal Update. 

 

Typically, the Update provides an updated forecast for the economy and federal government finances.  Generally, fiscal actions await the budget in February.  Monday's Update included some newly-announced measures with a focus on promoting job creation, stimulating learning, R&D, and boosting Canada’s investment climate.  Minister Goodale also unveiled a new economic plan (A Plan for Growth and Prosperity) aimed at improving Canada’s productivity and securing the nation’s long-term economic prosperity. ONTARIO ECONOMIC SUMMIT 2005 SPECIAL REPORT 

The Ontario Economic Summit, an initiative of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, held its second annual Ontario Economic Leadership Summit October 19-20 in Niagara-on-the-Lake. The event was attended by about 250 business, labour, academia and government leaders. 

 

The OES Secretariat and its steering council will begin to distill, focus and prioritize the top issues identified in each of the five forums held at the OES. Through the Secretariat, the OCC’s policy agenda will become more focused and provide critical direction to the OCC’s policy committees.
