Advocacy Update

FEDERAL ELECTIONS - CHANCE FOR VOICE OF BUSINESS TO BE HEARD

At this time the federal elections seem to be imminent and we are likely to head to the polls sometime near the end of January 2006. The Chamber will keep its members appraised of the election through regular electronic updates and will provide a forum for the political parties and candidates to communicate their platforms directly to the business community. As in past elections, the Chamber will remain business issue oriented.

During the election the Chamber will provide more election related content on its website, electronic updates and its newsletter. For information on the elections and the positions taken by the Chamber during the federal election visit our website at www.windsorchamber.org.

From the Canadian Chamber of Commerce:

OTTAWA'S DECISION ON INCOME TRUST ENDS UNCERTAINTY

The Canadian Chamber of Commerce welcomed the government's announcement yesterday on Income Trusts (Flow-Through Entities -FTEs). The announcement ends the uncertainty in capital markets and also reaffirms the validity of Income Trusts.

The Canadian Chamber of Commerce had made its submission to the government last week (Full Submission), and the government responded to our call for action on the tax treatment of dividends.
