Dear Mayor Hurst:
The Windsor & District Chamber of
Commerce is writing to voice its concerns regarding the motion tabled on
Monday, June 24, 2002 related to a proposed ban of transport trucks
traveling on University Avenue, Wyandotte Street, College Avenue and
Tecumseh Road.
Businesses that are located within
Windsor proper should be able to rely upon the timely receipt and delivery
of shipments of goods that are integral to their business. They should
have the flexibility to ship and receive goods utilizing any and all
available truck routes possible.
Also, banning local truck traffic
within city boundaries would disrupt production at just-in-time
manufacturers, jeopardizing operations, cost competitiveness, and in the
long term, creating potential job and revenue loss to our community.
While we sympathize with those
affected, the Windsor & District Chamber of Commerce cannot support
this motion.
Sincerely,
Michael Robinson
Chairman of the Board
