CURLING AT KINGSVILLE

DRIVEWAY

Please note that the entrance driveway was moved in 2003 (the old driveway now ONLY goes into the Crosswinds subdivision). The driveway is located 300 metres EAST of the old one (towards Kingsville), and is sign-posted for KINGSVILLE GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB. There no sign for the “Curling Club of Kingsville” on Road 20 (old Highway 18 - main road) except for the sign on the building itself (facing the main road).

As you drive in off the main road, on your left hand side, you will drive around two sides of a large building with a steel dome shaped roof - this is the curling club. Take the first turn to the left off the Golf Club driveway to enter the Curling Club’s parking lot, which is  still located (in the old place) to the west of the Curling Club building. In effect, you now have to drive virtually full circle all the way around the Curling Club building.

FOOTWEAR

The hallway between the change rooms and the ice rink is carpeted…

Our parking lot is gravel (& mud in times of bad weather)…

The above is a really BAD MIX....Thus the rule for ALL high school curlers…

NO STREET SHOES may be worn on the lower level beyond the lobby.

There are comfortable couches in the lobby for you to take off your shoes as you come in. Then go on to the dressing rooms in your stocking feet (socks) - or you may bring a pair of slippers with you if you prefer.

Note: Parent drivers and spectators may go directly upstairs from the lobby in clean street shoes.

NO curler will be allowed on the ice wearing the same shoes that they were wearing when they walked into the building. There will be no exceptions. There will be no clean-up of shoes in the washrooms this year. Those players that fail to bring along a second pair of previously cleaned shoes (with spotless soles) - or curling shoes - will not be permitted to play on that day. Think of the curling rink as “even more fussy than the school gym”. Note: wearing pull-on gripper/slider does not obviate or exempt this shoe requirement. Some of the worst damage we encountered last year was from ice exposed to dirty shoes after a pull-on had fallen off.

REFRESHMENTS

Refreshments are provided for drivers/parents/spectators/teacher representatives etc upstairs in the viewing lounge. Please, these are NOT for the players (Tony provides these personally - and there simply is not enough to feed hungry high school curling teams at the end of their school day!)

PRACTICE ICE TIME at KINGSVILLE

Practice ice is available Sunday evenings at 7pm for one or two hours - or longer if you wish. Tony Braithwaite has to open and close the building so PLEASE CALL AHEAD to make sure that Tony and the facilities are available.
