    Dearborn Rotary Grants Summer Camp Scholarships to Blue Lake Music Camp Dearborn Rotary recently awarded three partial scholarships for the Blue Lake Music Camp to the Dearborn Public Schools. These scholarships are available to students throughout the District for voice or instrumental instruction. Lisa Meyer, Music Director for the Dearborn Public Schools, received the scholarship funds from the Rotary Club and reported how the scholarships would be used for students in the District.


     


    GOALS FOR 2003 - 2004

    FELLOWSHIP COMMITTEE:
    * JULY - Steak Out
    * AUGUST - Family Picnic
    * SEPTEMBER - Baseball Game
    * OCTOBER - DECEMBER - Hay Ride, Niagara Falls, Niagara On the Lake Theater, Casino Night
    * JANUARY - MAY - Meeting with Belle River, Fancy Dining Event, Theater Night & Dinner, Bowling, Progressive Dinner, White Elephant Party

    Membership/Membership Development Committee
    Increase Membership By:
    * Supporting the "Carry Your Brick To Lunch Program"
    * Developing a target list of desirable classifications for our club
    * Supporting the "Family of Rotary" concept and encouraging members to bring relatives, neighbors and friends to our lunches
    * Inviting past members and prospective members to social outing and fund raisers

    Develop Members:
    *
    Have 2 fire side chats/ year
    * Assign new members to committees they feel comfortable in and have an interest.
    * Encourage all members to attend meetings and functions regularly so as to enjoy the full spectrum of Rotary
    * Develop a retention plan that focuses on maintaining high levels of enthusiasm through participation in interesting programs, projects and fellowship activities
    * Develop a recruitment plan that clearly explains the expectations of membership to potential Rotarians
    * Create a brochure that provides general information about Rotary as well as specific information about the club for prospective members.
    * Conduct a public awareness program targeted at the business and professional community to increase awareness about what Rotary is and does.
    * Encourage members to join a Rotary Fellowship to experience the internationally and friendship of RI

    Community Service:
    Literacy Programs - Siena Literacy Center - adult tutoring, In-school programs being planned, Good News Gang Library
    Aide to Senior Citizens - Meals of Wheels
    Drug Abuse Prevention - Drug awareness program with Dearborn Heights Police.
    Environmental Programs - Rouge River Rescue, Ecorse Creek Clean Up, Arbor Day program, Adopt A Highway
    Bike Safety Rodeo - Helmets for Kids
    Salvation Army Bell Ringing
    Goodfellow Paper Sales
    Clothing/Food Assistance - Bethune Academy mittens, scarves, socks
    Spirit Fest Booth
    Joint Service Club Project/Activity
    Centennial Project

    International Service:
    Sponsor youth exchange student (04-05)
    2 Foundation information programs
    Contribute $8000 to TRF Annual Fund
    Propose an Ambassadorial Scholar
    Coordinate and plan giving to the Hospital for the Children of the Californias in Mexico
    Whitewater World Affairs Seminar - send 2-3 students
    Take part in Twin Club Program
    Have the Second Annual World Understanding Dinner

    Vocational Service:
    One classification talk/month
    Expand our 4-way test program within the cities schools
    Establish 4-way test award at Robicaud, to be given at awards night.
    Vocational Service forum each week during the month of October
    Co-sponsor career day at Crested High School.
    Promote the 4-way test in City Hall & the courtrooms
    Host the State of City Address dinner
    Strengthen our ties with Interact at Robichaud High School
    Job shadow with students in each of the city's high schools.
    Job exchange between Rotarians
    RYLA, Whitewater Seminar, New Generations.


Community Service Committee Plan for 2002-2003
Ongoing programs in which we will continue participation:
* Annual Bicycle Safety Rodeo and distribution of free bike helmets.
* Annual Santa Lunch for needy children
* Upkeep of Salvation Army Relief Center at the Salvation Army Citadel.
* Annual Bell Ringing for Salvation Army.
* Participation in the Goodfellows Paper Sale
* Day at Focus Hope filling boxes
* Ecorse Creek Clean Up Day
* Rouge River Rescue Day
* Participation with booth at Dearborn Heights Annual Spirit Festival
* Financial assistance to needy community families.
* Help to Senior Citizens
* Financial support for Good News Gang
* Financial support for Visa Maria Girls Home
* Provide scholarships for the following: (*I think these fall under Vocational)
* Four Dearborn Heights high school students to attend weekend Leadership Seminar
* Job Shadow program with Rotarians and high school students
* $4000. To Dearborn Heights high school seniors
* Local high school students sent annually to White Water Wisconsin World Conference
* Support of Interact Club New programs in which we have already become involved:
* Outing with Rotarians and interact students to District Fundraiser Baseball Game
* Donation to Robichaud Senior/Junior High School to help with Electronic Library

New programs which we are investigating or already planning to implement:
* Providing city with public safety barricades with Rotary wheel emblem
* 4 Way Test Banners for Dearborn Heights courtrooms and city hall.
* Arbor Day Tree Planting at Dearborn Heights schools and Warren Ave.
* Habitat for Humanity day of work
* Join with other service clubs to update city limit signs including all logos and meeting information.
* Participation in Missing Children's Program
* Participation in city Drug Abuse Prevention program
* Support of YWCA on Michigan Ave. in Inkster or Boy's & Girl's Club on Telegraph in Dearborn
* Participate in schools community information day with Rotary booth at local school Previous projects that may or may not be reinstated:
* Annual Santa Lunch for disadvantaged children at Salvation Army
* Participation with Easter Seals Telethon
* Participation with Junior Achievement Program
* Participation with Special Olympics
* Distribution of scarves and gloves to disadvantaged children

Long Term Projects:
* Centennial Community Project to be determined and instituted
* Community needs survey in conjunction with Centennial Community Project
