Detroit
Rotary rolls out the STAR program
It's
true, we will soon have some *STARs* among us. STAR stands
for * S_*pecial * T_*raining for * A_*ction in
* R_*otary, and is the acronym for our brand
new, new-member orientation program. I'm
excited to announce that *Matt Wegrzynowicz* has agreed
to serve as the committee chair for this special
subcommittee of the Membership retention committee
which is headed up by *Phil Buck*. A very special thanks
to President Nominee, *Liz Smith* for designing the STAR
logo, and to *Jodi Wong* who has worked with
Matt and I to get this new program rolling.
Although
the STAR program is new to Detroit Rotary, it's actually
not so new to Rotary International. A club in
El Paso, Texas started this program back in 1976,
and within our own super district 6400, the Adrian noon
club has recently implemented this program with great success,
so we don't have to re-invent the Rotary wheel!
The
program is targeted at brand new Rotary members, typically
within the first 1 - 2 years of membership and
consists of a special monthly meeting which is
separate from our weekly meetings. The meetings are very
similar to a Rotary meeting, in that there is a short presentation
and either drinks or a meal, and then time for
fellowship. The topics will be centered around
learning more about Rotary and helping new members
get to know one another.
Detroit Rotary Foundation Issues 2002 - 2003 Grants
The
Detroit Rotary Club Foundation is that arm of the club which
exercises our financial obligation to support those in need
of assistance. This is done both through Club activities
and by offereing help to community groups which appeal to
us.
