Review of Club Plans and Objectives

MEMBERSHIP

  • 34 members; growth not consistent
  • Retention remains a challenge
  • Membership Committee and Retention Committee in place
  • Blue Book Directory used for possible new members
  • Business cards collected and distributed
  • Membership discussed and encouraged at all club events
  • Plans to have combined club forum meeting with Grosse Pointe Noon and Harper Woods Club
  • Recruitment goal: 5 new members (15%) by 6/30/04

RI FOUNDATION COMMITMENT

  • Our club commitment is $6000, about $200/ member for the 03-04 Rotary year

CLUB SERVICE

  • Meeting programs scheduled 6 to 8 weeks in advance
  • Program committee in place
  • Regular programs devoted to Rotary topics usually occur monthly
  • PR video recently developed to promote RI and our club programs
  • PR and program committee publish weekly calendar of speakers and upcoming events, published "new members", and other pertinent club and district information

MAJOR FUND-RAISERS

  • Grosse Pointe Run: Our major public relations and fundraising event of the year. Usually have about 700 runners for the event. A major advertising campaign took place in the GP News. Paul W. Smith of WJR Radio will serve as the grand marshall/master of ceremonies. A mailing list of 20000 known runners will be used to distribute information and applications to potential participants.
  • Koeze Nut Sale: Winter holiday fund raiser.

VOCATIONAL SERVICE

  • Member vocational talks occur throughout the year
  • A 4-Way Test presentation is planned in October

COMMUNITY SERVICE

  • Preteen Girls "At Risk" Program. The club sponsors 17 special girls at Peace Lutheran Church in Detroit.
  • Eagle Sports Club. Club supports this nonprofit organization for underprivileged children in Detroit.
  • High School Scholarships. Gives scholarships to 4 local high school students
  • Motor City Kids Book Drive. Donated and delivered new and like new books for children in Detroit.

INTERNATIONAL SERVICE

  • Dominican Republic literacy. library project
  • Dominican Republic water filtration/purification project for this year.
  • Sponsored UM undergraduate student for "Global Roots" project in Ghana

YOUTH EXCHANGE PROGRAM

  • Plan to advertise in local newspapers for qualified student to participate
  • Needs district help to put on a program for teachers and students.
