Hallo!!
I am having a great time in Germany. I have now been here for about 3 months. It feel like I have been here for a lot longer. It seems almost impossible to have such good friends in only 3 months. I am still living with my first host family. They are very nice. I get along with them great. I will be going to my next host family during the Christmas break.
I have already traveled to Berlin and Hannover. Hannover is a hour train ride away. They are both really nice cities. I finally know my way around Nšrten Hardenberg (where I live) and Gšttingen (where my school is). Now I don't get lost, as much. School is going really good.
Right now we have practicum. For two week we go to a work place. I am at a Forestry College. There is four of us there. So far we learned a lot about trees and hunting. What I have really learned is that I don't want to go to school for forestry!
I can't speak German really good yet. I can get my point across...sometimes. I speak English and German all together. My German friends think its funny. The other rotary students and I said we will not speak English after Christmas. So my next letter will be in German!!
My host Rotary club is mostly males. They are all very nice and enjoy talking about Canada. Some of then have even been there. Every Thursdays there is a meeting. My consular is also nice. He is the youngest member. He works a wine shop. It is run by his family and him.
The food here is GREAT!!! They have the best bread and ice cream but not together. There isn't really much difference in the food. They don't have macaroni and cheese and cheese pieces but I am doing OK without them.

Sept. 1st

Hi,

I hope everyone enjoyed the last weekend of the summer!!  I did here in Germany. It was really weird. There was a party, in the town that I live close to. It's like a town event. There were tons of people and  everyone just drank on the streets. It was really weird to see.  I told them if we were to do that in Canada would get into trouble.  Some of the people seemed so young and they could just go in the store and buy beer!!  I went with my host sister and some friends from school.  They also had about 3 or 4 stages with bands.

School is going really well. I am in the 11th grade. Although everyone is 2 years younger me they are really nice and fun to hang out with. I have sooo many subjects!!  Lets see if I can remember them all, English, German, math, geog. bio, chem, politics, physics, art, (ya I know,  I'm the last person that should be in  art!!)  religion, Latin and French.  However I don't have to go to Latin and French. Also starting next Thursday I will be in a class to learn German and once a week I play volleyball (you have to pick one sports class to take). The school day starts at 7.45. But lucky for me I have to take the train and it leaves at 6.49.   School ends at different times. Usually 13.05, 14.15 or 15.00. (1, 2, and 3)

The train was something new to me.  I have only been on a train once and they are much different here. It's not bad though. I have to ride for approx. 13 minutes.  As easy as it sounds I did get lost!!!  Yes leave it up to me to get on the wrong train. I was in the next town and had to wait 45 minutes for the next train going back home. I planned to take the wrong train so I could see more of Germany, well that's what I keep telling myself.

My family is really super nice.  Only the daughter speaks English and she has started to just speak German.  We are using a lot of hand gestures.  It would probably be funny to watch.

Well everything is going good and Germany is beautiful!!!! There is soo many hills and trees, it's not flat!!!

talk to you soon

Danielle
