Over
600 Rotarians and guests celebrated Rotary Service at
the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. They all experienced
an absolutely wonderful district conference that was hosted
by District Governor Roberto and Sylvia Sanchez. District
Conference Larry Wright made the governor's vision come
true. PDG Ken and Lynn Schuppert were the Rotary President's
Representatives. Everyone was impressed with their cordiality,
sincerity and involvement.
The
district conference committee members made it happen.
Over 50 Rotarians and spouses used their time and talents
to make a very memorable District Conference a huge success.
An extensive action packed 'Future Rotarians' program
was lead by Rotarian Brandi Towar Keating for more than
40 children from 6 to 12 years of age during the entire
district conference.
The
program highlights included:
The grandeur of the Grand Hotel and their superb staff
The enthusiastic welcome by our Governor in his 'monopoly
style' formal attire costume.
PDG Ken and Lynn Schuppert joined in on the welcome.
The packed house at the 'Rotary Idol Show' which was hosted
by PP Gord Orr.
The great opening ceremony that featured the 'Future Rotarians'
children, the Youth Exchange Students, and the Club Presidents.
A joyful American and Canadian Anthems was song by all.

The DisCon 2005 Promotion to Cincy was presented by DGE
Jim and Diane Ives.
Five great 'Family of Rotary Club Programs' were presented.
After a quick break, youth programs were presented. The
youth exchange students put on one of the best programs
in many years. This was one of the highlights of the conference.
Friday evening featured several receptions. Then we heard
the keynote speaker PDG Ken Schuppert.
The session ended with many major awards. PRID Bill
Ives and RRFC Larry Wright received the 'Service Above
Self Award', the highest Rotary International Award.
PRID Bill Ives also received a special life long Rotarian
award that is named after him. The Devlyn Exemplary Award
went to the Taylor Rotary Club. The Hugh Archer Award
was given to Adrian Morning Rotary Club. The Richard Hedke
Award was awarded to the Windsor Roseland Rotary Club.
Saturday
morning session featured some 'Un-sung Heroes' recognitions
followed by four Rotary Volunteer presentations. The 'Children
of the Dump' story was told by Juan Quevedo who graduated
from the program and now is a living spokesperson. Over
25 $2500 commitments were made by your Rotary Clubs. Each
one will give land, building and self sustaining skills
and food for the needy people.
After a quick break, three GSE Teams gave their presentations.
One that visited Brazil last summer, one the just returned
from Greece and one of the Greece GSE Team. This was followed
by recognition of the people who are Paul Harris Fellows
since the last district conference. The rest of the Unsung
Heroes' were presented. The youth 'Media Club Newscast'
video was shown. Finally DG Roberto Sanchez handed out
other awards that included seven Council of Governors
Award.
Saturday
evening was a grand 'Some Where in Time' Costume Party.
Hundreds of Rotarians and guest were in full costume.
There was a Grand Promenade with judging.
Sunday
morning had a Necrology & Faith Service followed by
a mother's day ceremony, closing remarks from PDG Ken
Schuppert, three resolutions, treasurer's report, DisCon
05 promotion, closing remarks DG Roberto Sanchez, conference
slide show and closing song 'Let There be Peace on Earth'
