Does your Club have a plan?

What is membership development?

The three essential elements of membership growth are:
* the retention of existing members
* the proposal of new members
* extension of Rotary through the formation of new clubs.

These three elements are equally important, as illustrated by this simple membership equation:
New Members + Retaining Members (retention) + New Clubs (extension) = Membership

Retention of existing members require implementing an internal club plan. It is a lot easier for a club to retain an existing member that recruit a new member.

See Delmar Sisler's excellent RETENTION list of practical items that can be in your plan! Ask him to come to your club to give a presentation on Membership Retention

Does your plan include: A Friend - Mentor, An Assignment, Nourishment - Education?

Will the Mentor be the best experienced Rotarian who has good attendance and has a working knowledge of Rotary Club and District?
The Mentor is not necessarily the sponsor.
There are great Rotarians who can sell Rotary and ask to people to join.
There are other great Rotarians who can nuture new Rotarians to achieve success.

Will the assignment be meaningful projects that meet the members needs?
Are the projects set up to build self esteem in Rotary?
Are you willing to change assignments to help guarantee success for the Rotarian and Rotary Club?
Does your club publicize your service projects to help new Rotarians be successful? Do you have recognitions for a job well done?
Do you make a new Rotarians family a part of your Rotary Club?
Do you encourage business networking that references ethical business practices?

Does member nourishment include Rotary International Resources, meaningful Club Assemblies, participation in Club Seminars and Fireside Events?
Do you participate in our District New Member Seminars?
Do you involve the new member in Internet education?
Do you have simple but effective tailor made Power Point or CDs Club information?
Do you have a survey member on club issues?
Do you have regular review of club activities?
